Photography with the eye of a painter; color and where to put the horizon

When we take a picture we frame the subject. It’s called composition. where we place the subject and how we frame the picture is our main concern. We want to capture the scene as best we can. Photography is great and I have decades of such picture.

I’ve been painting landscape lately and my focus has changed more towards color. It has changed how I look at landscapes and how I take pictures. I’m color focused and I’m shoving the horizon higher because the sky is not always my focus. In painting and photography you move the horizon higher so the viewers eyes are drawn to the foreground. If the sky is the subject the horizon goes lower but never in the middle. Where to you want the viewers eye to go is the key.

The photos below are all about the color and keeping the horizon high. The eye goes to the trees. My pictures are not enhanced or even cropped.
