Abstracts Today; Renton, Wa, Garage sales, bootleg cap, Marvel-lous, signed copy

The signs are in the trees or rather in their leaves. A slight change of color at the fringes. Summer is winding down here in the northwest. Short as it was, it has been great and there is more to come, at least one or two hot spells. Then spring! Then spring will roll into winter. You can feel the temperature has dropped. Time to put away the portable Air conditioner.

Renton, Wa visit to a son

Our healthcare visits took us to renton where sB lives on the third floor of a multi-building apartment complex. It’s off a main drag and near plenty of shopping. I believe someday he’ll return home but for now he’s thinking renton is long term. I miss him and it was good to see him.

Garage sales

Renton is south of bellevue. We would typically take the northbound 405 to get home. This weekend the northbound lanes were closed causing a huge backup. We took a detour and stopped by several garage sales, two to be exact but that was enough. I picked up a jet and car model cheap, seven ball caps, a metronome from seth thomas. Yeah, i thought they only made clocks.

Bootleg cap

One of the ball caps i purchased at the garage sale was a hello kitty. as i started to list it I questioned whether is was authentic. All signs were that it was not and not wanting to poke the bear i deleted the listing and tossed the hat in the donation bag. It’s bootleg from china. I don’t need to study trademark law to understand the illegality of this type of thing.

Marvel ball cap

Now I did pay $1 for a like-new marvel Captain America ball cap. This item has the marvel label. Looks authentic. Better than a plain white label saying made in china like the hello kitty cap. This one looks genuine and I put it up on ebay and etsy for $14.50.

Signed copy

When we look at books we look for signed copies. I’ve found several that have reaped a bounty; Harry Truman and Rod Serling to name two. I picked up a first edition hardcover copy of a book by Katherine hepburn. These factors point to me appear to give a good chance it would have her signature. It did not. I did pick up a softcover historical book about the city of Kenmore, Washington. There are two on ebay and one going for over $200 and the other at $95 I believe. Amazon is similar and the same with Abebooks. Very expensive. But mine has the signature of the historian responsible for the book. She’s not the author but the key person who is on the back sleeve. They call her the historian. The condition of my book wasn’t that great and I put it up for sale to sell. In other words I underpriced everyone. Mine was warped and the warpedness caused a crease in the cover.
