The park with the unpronounceable name is just 6 acres. New to most of us, ƛ̕ax̌ʷadis Park has the one feature that puts it at the top of the list: direct access to the Sammamish River, and with that; boat, kayak, canoe, and SUP storage.
River access is more than a muddy trail to the bank but a dock, sturdy metal walkways with railings, and a bridge. Despite single family residences and a waterfront mobile home park in the area, the immediate park location has lush banks teeming with wildlife such as mallard duck families.
Parking is presently plentiful and there is parking along the road. The road is a frontage road that runs along the Bothell Everett Highway, nice and quiet with little traffic.
At the park enjoy the stands of trees including a Sitka spruce somewhere. A second entrance parallels the main parking lot. This second entrance uses the driveway of the apartment building next door. Go straight to a lockable chain link gate. Inside the compound is a boathouse with three bays, a pavilion with picnic tables, and racks of canoe and kayak outdoor storage. Cost of storage for these human powered craft is $130 for six months. The park is maintained by the City of Kenmore and is located at 7515 NE 175th Street, Kenmore, WA 98028. Additional boat storage is across the street.
The park is named for the indiginous people that lived in the area; part of the Salish, called the ƛ̕AX̌ʷADIS and pronounced TL’ AWH-AH-DEES meaning “a place where something is grown or sprouts.” The park is not new though I was told by a nearby resident it was only three years old. What I find is that the park existed before as Squires Landing Park. The name was changed in 2021. It appears new.
