Propagating hydrangea isn’t difficult. Take a cutting from the stock that is not blooming and cut below the node. Make the cutting four inches or more. Use growth hormone or not. Plant the cutting in a pot and place in a shady place, don’t let it die of thirst.

This year my vegetable garden is a disaster. Thus, I return to my old faithful hydrangea cuttings. I have at least a dozen growing. Saved one today from becoming completely dehydrated from the sun. Thus, I learn they don’t like direct sunlight.

My one early success with a hydrangea cutting is now planted on the hillside and showing tremendous flowers. A second, smaller, hydrangea is doing well close by. From cutting to maturity, these things are fun to watch and when they bloom it’s quite satisfying.
