Historic building at 1611 Everett Avenue, Everett

There’s something about that old brick building with the racing sign in front. It looks vacant but maybe at night it comes alive with gambling? It was once a casino but that went bust. The sign remains at the front entrance making an iconic building look more mysterious.

Graffiti art at the rear. The side shows a suture where the front quarter was added. The suture reveals unreinforced masonry in the back and reinforced in the front. See photo. At this point a roof line was added that extends out several feet at the front like the brim of a hat. A window is open at the third floor and I hear voices. It’s not a vacant building. Today it houses a cultural center and a collection of graffiti art. The building is also a party venue.

Built in 1921 by Knights of Columbus. Housed Masons and for a time was party palace with multiple floors and dancing. Finally it became a casino. Lately it’s a cultural center and holds a collection of graffiti art.

Unreinforced mason on left.
