Last year’s potato harvest

In 2022 I was given a bag of Potatoes by my daughter Cecilia. She had received these from a co-worker who picked them at a local form. These are what we call seed potatoes. They are meant to be either eaten or planted in the ground. Store bought potatoes have a growth inhibitor that is easily washed off. This year I’m having success with seed potatoes, those grown over a glass of water, and a batch presented to me by my son, Aaron (Spencer).

Back in 2022 I picked a small space in the raised bed and dug down about eight inches, placing about a dozen potatoes in the hole and burying them with good garden soil. The I completely forgot about them. In 2023, about a year later, Aaron notices a head of green vegetation and recognizes it as potatoes. The protruding leaves are the indication that there are ripe potatoes down below.

In this picture is Aaron digging up the spud. We found quite a harvest laying underground patiently waiting.
