Dear Aaron

Here I go again
Armed with paper and pen
Committing the high crime
Of writing silly rhymes

This one’s brand new
Written just for you
On the occasion
Of your 15th celebration

We’re so happy
Marc, Cecilia, Mom, and Pappy
For every day together
It doesn’t get any better

I know where we’ve been
And the current state we’re in
That hour has arrived
On the roads you will drive

When my memory fades
I’ll think of your mermaids
And critters in your room
On quiet afternoons

Your garden lush, green, and shouting
With pumpkin seeds sprouting
Where grasshoppers find a home
And lizards tend to roam

The sketches in your book
And my duct tape that you took
Watching all those shows
Like that one called H2O

Music and that Ke$ha song
Something is seriously wrong
Always playing that sound
With the car window down

When there’s nothing to do
You turn your sights to food
And make a tender treat
For all of us to eat

One more thing to say
And then I’ll be on my way
I say this with certainty
I’ll see you in eternity

We love you very much
Our hearts you have touched
When the day is done
There will always be Aaron
