Cecilia

What’s going on here?
What’s the meaning of this?
Something’s in the atmosphere
Something’s amiss

Why all the fuss?
Why the funny song?
Celebrate if you must
I’ll just tag a-long

What do you mean?
In this hour of need
Turning fourteen
When you’re just thirteen

We have something to say
That’s long overdue
Suitable for today
Is an I love you

Nothing else can speak these words
Gifts, cake, or laughter
Even though it sounds absurd
It’s the thing that I’m after

We will celebrate
Our eyes are on you
But not the things that tend to break
And lose their value

You are worth a whole lot more
Our words should come across
Than what we buy at the store
That get stolen or lost

Just so you know it
If confused, please forgive
Though we may blow it
It’s love that we give

Whether friend or family
Near or far
We extend this courtesy
To love who you are

This poem has reached a conclusion
One that we all share
If any confusion
You know that we care

Have a Happy Birthday
From all those you know
Continue to play,
Laugh, dream, and grow

Love,
Dad
