Attention Please!

Attention please …Attention!
I have something to mention
It has to do with this date
And the person we celebrate

Even from the beginning
She’d stand there just grinning
With the world’s broadest smile
Its length was about a mile

And glued to her face
Not removed nor erased
Her eyes I would see
Staring right back at me

She brightened up our home
And wherever we would roam
From Zion to Yosemite
We recall those days most fondly

Remembering how things once were
Before entering the future
When you stepped into the arena
As a dancing ballerina

With your brothers at your side
In the sandbox outside
Sleeping with your doll
Music playing in the hall

Eating with plastic plates
Going up the street in skates
Learning how to read
The park we call centipede

We were so busy enjoying
The days you spent growing
To have foreseen
The day you’d turn fifteen

Some things will always remain
Some things we can count on again
It’s you at any age
Despite the turn of a page

I’ll say this once more
You are better than before
And as the days of past
The good times we amass

Because you are here, it’s true
We’re celebrating you
For all you’ve given us
Love, honor, and trust

You have been a super-star
Because that’s just who you are
You’re always at your best
It is we who are the blessed

This poem is memorabilia
So, Happy Birthday, Cecilia
And I forgot to mention
Thank you for your attention

Love,
